A Conversation with Michelle Rhee, CityClub, Feb. 19

February 19, 2013 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

A Conversation with Michelle Rhee, CityClub

When: Tuesday, February 19, 2013, 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Where: Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Avenue, Seattle

What: Join education reformer Michelle Rhee for a lively conversation about her new book “RADICAL: Fighting to Put Students First” and the state of education in the United States. Michelle Rhee is the founder and CEO of StudentsFirst, a political advocacy organization for education reform. She served as chancellor of the Washington, D.C. public schools from 2007 to 2010. She is also the founder of The New Teacher Project and a former Teach for America corps member. In her book Rhee recounts her own experiences in the trenches as a teacher and administrator. She warns that American kids (no matter their socio-economic status) rank 25th out of 30 developed nations in math. In the next 20 years, the U.S. economy is expected to create 123 million high skilled, high pay jobs, but American kids, if we continue on our current course, will be able to fill only 50 million of those jobs. What strategies can be adopted to get us on the right track with education? Bring your own questions and join us for this lively and timely conversation!
