Position: Vice President-Communications

What: The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce seeks an experienced communications professional to lead the organization’s communication functions, including branding, message development, social media, media relations and marketing. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to represent and develop communication strategies for each of these areas and for the Chamber as a whole. The position reports to the President & CEO.
The Chamber is the largest business association in the Puget Sound region. Founded in 1882 by local business leaders, the Chamber today is an independent organization representing 2,200 companies and a regional workforce of approximately 700,000.

Responsibilities:
- Develops and directs Chamber messaging and branding; manages and advises senior leadership on company reputation and strategic direction
- Initiates, implements and tracks strategic communication efforts and major projects (website, rebranding, community engagement)
- Sets media strategy; works with CEO and SVPs on responses; writes all media statements and materials; acts as spokesperson when necessary
- Prepares CEO/Board leadership messaging
- Prepares for/handles crisis communications
- Manages department; serves on management team
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, marketing, public relations or related field
- 5 years’ experience in a communication leadership position
- Documented record of success in strategic planning, branding and message development, and reputation management
- 3 years’ experience in media relations; expertise in handling media related to government and public efforts as well as crisis communication planning and response
- Proven ability to coach and counsel executives and volunteers
- Ability to work effectively with Chamber members and their executives, and to work collaboratively with myriads of partners and key constituents
- Strong team leader interested in developing staff
- Social media and technology savvy
- Superb writing/editor with excellent verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to conceptualize and articulate strategic direction while determining tactical and next steps
- Engaged with the community, have a strong understanding of local, regional and statewide politics / visions / missions / how governments, cities and municipalities work together

- Proficient in MS Outlook and Adobe Suite; familiarity with HTML desired but not required
