The “Voice of the 12s” is like a supersonic boom inside the high decibel supercollider that is CenturyLink Field. At game time, the dial on Seahawk fan volume seems to be turned up to the mythical 12 notch in the stadium’s amplified acoustics.
“They play the music too loud,” quips the intro segue to the Sea Hawkers podcast. “It’s like you can’t even talk to the person next to you.”
But off-the-field and on the Internet, the voice of the Seahawk’s 12s is spoken in more conversational tones. A podcast made by 12s for 12s, and which originates from outside CenturyLink’s zip code, is as incisive about the Hawk’s playbook as it is impassioned about the Super Bowl and NFC champ’s playmakers.
Hosts Brandan Schulze (who is also a member of the Military Seahawkers cadre), and sidekick Adam Emmert (a “quick-off-the-line,” outside-the-box, idea man), channel the Seahawk fan base sentiments each week. Their point-of-view is as savvy, football-literate observers, the kind of knowledgable super fans one would expect from the Seattle team’s legions. We 12s are smart!
Seahawks’ General Manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll would be wise to tune-in and listen up to the voice of these Twelves every week, for advice like this:
When it is “4th down and 1” with a single yard separating the ball and the “goal line,” be it a crucial Super Bowl touchdown or a game-ending overtime possession, don’t snap the ball from a shotgun formation (which gives up yardage) but allow Marshawn Lynch to charge ahead in I-formation from the line of scrimmage, following a fullback into the scrum. (Something “Beast Mode’s” Mom recently tweeted about!)
The Sea Hawker’s also have a suggested play call to get Kam Chancellor back from his extended contract holdout that feels like a true “win-win” scenario. Free agency is the key!
“I’d say this to Kam,” says Adam. “You have guaranteed money this year so come in and play out the rest of your contract now. Next year we will guarantee half of your salary (that would be year three of the current contract). We will tear up year four giving you another bite of the apple [in free agency], the chance to bet on yourself, to get out there and make the extra money that you’re looking for!”
What the Seahawks would be giving Kam is the opportunity to go to free agency a year early. That gives Kam an opportunity to let free market capitalism work its magic. If Kam loves the Hawks as much as he says he does, he can still re-sign with Seattle.
The only capitulation the Seahawks would be making is guaranteeing half of Kam’s contract for next year. That’s still money they were going to pay him anyway. Oh, and the Hawks would also waive the current penalties against Chancellor saving him close to a million dollars.
A “win-win-win” deal!
