DefendCon was born from several inspirational men and women who wanted to offer a different type of conference experience. We wanted to create a conference that provided the same technical content as a more traditional security event while providing a safe, collaborative space for women and non-binary individuals. At this conference you’ll be exposed to industry luminaries from top tech companies, participate in technical hacking challenges, and network with industry peers.
Check out our jam-packed agenda featuring two full days of infosec talks on container security, privacy, OSINT, bug hunting and more. Have fun and learn at our CTF village or our lock picking village. Relax at the mental health hackers village and recharge your soul.
FAQs
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
All student must show valid student ID to recieve the student rate. Some evening events may be 21+ due to Washington State liquor laws.
What do you mean by “Gender Diverse”?
When we created DefendCon we listened to a lot of our friends who were transgender and nonbinary who related experiences where they weren’t welcome at “women only” conferences. We recognize that language around these issues is imperfect, but that individuals with non-majority genders often experience the same types of discrimination and harassment, and that what unites us is a desire for a safe, harassment free space, to learn and grow.
Will I have to prove my gender? What if I’m (insert gender identity here) but my legal ID is different?
Just like in bathrooms, we believe that everyone has the inalienable right to express their gender identity and that no one has a right to ‘check’ or ‘enforce’ gender identity.
Ally tickets are sold out? Isn’t it sexist that men are excluded?
We restrict the number of ally tickets because one of the main goals of the conference is a place where we can connect with other people in an environment where women feel safe and not ‘other’. We love our male allies, but want to maintain a predominantly female demographic.
