UX Career Crossroads: Manager or IC? Presentation and Panel Discussion

As you progress in your UX career, you’ll be quickly faced with many options and decisions to make around career direction. UX is a unique industry in that you can reach high title, level, and salary options by going two different routes—people management or individual contributor (IC).

At this event, we’ll start by level-setting on what the two tracks might look like in your company. Then, we’ll talk to our panelists and get their practical advice and insights on which tracks might suit you best, why to choose one or the other, and what skills are important for each. We’ll finish with a Q&A from the audience!

**Renee Yang
Renee recently made the switch back to being an IC from managing a small team of designers. She’s been at Google for just over 7 years and has designed everything from cloud products to SMB experiences and is now focused on delighting kids as they discover, read, watch, and create with Google Kids Space.

**Jill Corral
Jill has 20+ years of experience in product design in the tech industry, most recently as Head of UX Design for Alexa AI Natural Understanding at Amazon. She works at the intersection of visuals, voice, and spaces.

**Sara Hubbard
Sara has been living in the world of UX for the past 9+ years, coming first from a graphic design and front-end development background. She’s currently a Sr Product Design Manager, continuing her passion for leading teams in high-quality design and empowering others’ professional development. Sara is one of the co-founders of seaDUX, and also teaches UX Fundamentals courses at the School of Visual Concepts in Seattle.
