Gnomedex Gnotes — Presidential hopeful and former North Carolina U.S. senator John Edwards took the stage last week at the sixth annual Gnomedex proceedings to get into the Blogger’s state of mind. “The next president of United State will be a single candidate who doesn’t sound like a politican,” he confessed. Top down kills engagement, Edwards said, with politicians spoon feeding information to the public that is personally useful to them. He called it a “plastic veneer,” which makes people distrustful and cynical. “Anything we can do to give real access to reailty, and not cute political phrases would be good.” Blogs, including the video brand, and podcasts are part of the solution.
Meanwhile, Seattle’s Blue Dot Network officially unveiled its leading-edge social network for public consumption. The hybrid tagging/ranking/home space network lets users share links, images and podcasts to see what friends find “interesting.” [24×7]
Comcast Buys thePlatform
Comcast has purchased Seattle’s thePlatform, the vertically-integrated video management company whose “platform” helps customers like National Geographic, CNBC and The Wall Street Journal better control video and audio distribution quality, rights management and E-commerce.
Comcast will manage thePlatform as a wholly owned subsidiary, with the 70-person unit continuing to operate from Seattle under the direction of 36-year-old Chief Executive Ian Blaine. No layoffs are planned, and thePlatform will retain its name and customer base, Blaine said. [24×7]
