#DiversityinTech: Hands-On Solutions Workshop, GA
When: Saturday, July 3o, 2016, 10 am –2 pm
Where: GA Seattle, 1218 Third Ave, 3rd Floor, Seattle
What: A tremendous amount of attention is dedicated to making workplace environments more diverse and inclusive. Yet, despite concentrated effort, women, people of color, and members of the LGBT community continue to face implicit and explicit barriers in the workplace, and are underrepresented in management and senior leadership positions. What responsibility do employers and industry leaders have to facilitate inclusivity? This will be a highly interactive, solutions-based workshop addressing issues of #DiversityinTech.
Who: Ken Smith, Production Engineering Manager for Facebook, is from small town midwest, born of a veteran father and mother who immigrated from Korea. His hardworking parents supplied him with a Commodore VIC-20 in 1984 which started his coding career. His mother graduated with a degree in computer science one year before he did. Ken has worked in numerous industries in lots of great places on both coasts of the US and abroad and, though he is embarrassingly bad at his mother’s language, can get by in Japanese. Ken is a production engineering manager at Facebook and is hiring.
