DOs and DONT’s for Employer Social Media Policies and Discipline Issues, AWB
When: Thursday, March 6, 2014, 9:30 am – 11:00 am
Where: Columbia Center–40th Floor, 701 5th Ave. Seattle
What: Recently, the National Labor Relations Board has been actively scrutinizing employers’ policies and discipline decisions (including terminations) involving social media issues. Both union and non-union employers are finding themselves the subject of such investigations. Many employers are finding out the hard way that their policies and discipline procedures are not in compliance with recent legal developments.
Have you ever wondered whether you can discipline an employee for posting disparaging remarks about your company on Twitter or Facebook? Have you ever wondered what your obligations are, if any, if one employee complains to you about another employee’s online conduct? Are your work rules, codes of conduct, social media and other policies up to date with respect to employees’ web-based conduct?
This seminar will cover the following issues, among others:
• What you can and cannot include in your workplace policies regarding employees’ use of social media.
• How to effectively discipline for online misconduct.
• Your obligations in responding to employee complaints about online posts and social media conduct.
