Engineering careers: getting clear on what you want, May 11

May 11, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 9:35 pm

$20

ga_cogWho: General Assembly
Where: General Assembly
When: May 11, 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm
What: We hear it all the time: “Know what you want.” If it were that easy to figure out there wouldn’t be such a high disengagement rate among skilled workforce. Engineers are great at designing solutions to problems, but not so good at designing a meaningful career. A career management mindset is the key to a fulfilling career and building one starts with increasing awareness and making conscious choices. Awareness is the key when it comes to creating something new: building a vision or launching a business or designing a career all starts with knowing your values and what you want.

Students will get sensory-rich perspectives of different work environments in different industries where engineering work takes place to prepare them for the meditative visualization. While learning about the great benefits of daily meditation, students will engage in guided meditative visualization to let their subconscious mind guide them in understanding what they want to experience during their engineering career. Following the goal setting exercise students will create a baseline vision board that can serve as the basis of further career planning.
