What: The Seattle Google Developer Group (aka GTUG) is holding our first-ever Dev Fest/hack-a-thon in a couple of weeks. We’re planning a fun weekend of learning and hacking – all centered around building applications for new devices; namely Tablets and TVs. Please help us spread the word; we really want to reach people who have never done mobile development before – we have a super-friendly program for new-to-mobile developers as well as great hands-on help for experienced Android developers.
This is a two-track event, the first targets new-to-mobile developers, and the second for those interested in building apps for Google TV and Android. HMTL5 – For people with experience with HTML, we’ll introduce you to rapid development of a Tablet-targeted application using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We’ll get you up and running creating your own App Engine application, and you’ll learn how to structure your app to take the most advantage of tablet form factors, touch events, and local storage. Google TV – We have Google engineer Kristan “Krispy” Ucello coming to Seattle to lead a Google-TV themed track. We will have 30 loaner devices here so you can get hands-on experience building apps for the “lean-back” experience, and learn how to get your apps in the Google TV Play store. We will also have a demo contest on Sunday afternoon to show off what you’ve been working on over the weekend (with prizes for the coolest apps built in HTML or for Google TV).
