The Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute (NMDSI) will host “Exploring Cyberpolitics & GenAI in the Classroom” as part of our regular virtual Speaker Series on Friday, Sept. 27, from noon – 1 p.m. (CT).
In this session, you will hear from Dr. Robert Beck, associate professor of political science and former chief information officer (CIO) for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), about the intersection of cyberpolitics and generative AI (GenAI) in educational settings.
During his presentation, Dr. Beck will explore the potential impact of AI algorithms and the ethical considerations when used in education. He will also share how educators can effectively integrate GenAI technologies in the classroom to foster critical thinking and awareness of cyberpolitical issues. Throughout the session, attendees will gain insights into the evolving landscape of digital politics and practical strategies using GenAI to navigate this complex terrain.

Speaker Bio
Dr. Robert Beck
Dr. Beck is an associate professor of political science who previously served as UWM’s CIO for nine years. During his time as CIO, he was responsible for the security, stability, and innovation of UWM’s key IT systems and infrastructure. Dr. Beck is a scholar of international law and international relations and author, co-author, and editor of six books. He earned his B.A. from Marquette University and his Ph.D. from Georgetown University.
