February 2013 Dinner Meeting, PMI

When: Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Where: Renaissance Seattle Hotel, 515 Madison Street, Seattle

What: Do you want to grow as a Technical PM in Product Group of Hi-Tech companies like Microsoft, Boeing, Amazon, Expedia, Google, or in a similar Software Company? This TPM Foundationevent is designed for those professionals who want to acquire and enhance their Technical Program Management (TPM) skills. These skills are core to succeed as a TPM in a software Product/Service centric company or division.  A PM in a Product/Service group is like a CEO of a technical project – Accountable for envisioning, development and delivering value to customer i.e. throughout the Product/Service life cycle.

A Technical Program Manager

  • Owns or contributes to the vision and strategy for the Product/Service
  • Creates solution design
  • Manages development and Product release/Service delivery

During this event the speakers will cover the foundational knowledge required for any PM to execute full life cycle of the Product/Service with the proverbial “Why, What and How” in mind. TPM Foundation boot camp is a first course in a multi-course series.

Analytical problem solving & Solution Design: A scientific approach of breaking down problems, designing, experimenting and interpreting the discrete results to systematically solve the problems with focus on real-world correlations. A structured and systematic approach to investigating and solving problems using Archetypes, Persona and Scenario based design methodologies.

System Engineering and Architecture: Systematically considering various entities and their correlations to ensure that a solution spans multiple domains and does not create problems in another domain. Non-functional requirement, also called qualities of system, is a requirement that specifies criteria that can be used to judge the operations of a system.

Business Analysis: Understanding key requirements that effectively address what customers/Partners want or may need in future. Identifying gaps between current and future scenarios. Effectively prioritizing key requirements for related features and releases.

Communication: PMs are responsible for the overall communication in their teams and with other business groups.
