Fundamentals for Hardware Startups: Business Models for Hardware Companies: An Investor’s Perspective

September 2, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Chrissy Meyer will speak about common business models adopted by hardware companies, along with when and why they work. She’ll cover potential sources of revenue, spanning everything from high-volume consumer products to low-volume enterprise hardware. Finally, she’ll share her perspective as an early-stage investor on which business models are most attractive for those seeking venture capital funding.

Chrissy has spent the past decade taking hardware products from early concept through high-volume production. After getting her MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford, she led several projects at Apple and Square. She was also a founding team member at Pearl Automation, a vehicle technology startup. She has developed products that have shipped tens of millions of units, and she spent over a year on the ground in Asia working closely with manufacturers and suppliers. Chrissy is currently a partner at Root Ventures, a seed-stage hard tech venture capital firm. At Root, she invests in deeply technical teams that are solving problems in robotics, hardware, industrial automation, AI, and machine learning.

Hardware is hard…so we gathered experts from the field to speak directly to hardware entrepreneurs about bringing a product to market, from breadboard to manufacturing. These seasoned guest speakers deliver valuable content designed to help startups and entrepreneurs thrive. Lectures are typically 30-40 mins, followed by open Q&A.
Each lecture is archived on CoMotion’s Startup Training Videos page.
These lectures are open to the public and you do not have to be currently affiliated with the UW or a startup to join. Please register at the link below for access information. We hope you can join us!
