Hatch Show Print Schmooze and Sale, School of Visual Concepts
When: Friday, December 7th, 2012, 5:00 PM–9:00 PM
Where: School of Visual Concepts 500 Aurora Ave N, Seattle
What: We’re still amazed when we run into people who haven’t heard of Hatch, America’s oldest letterpress poster shop and the pride of Nashville, Tennessee. The unmistakable look of Hatch posters has been used to sell everything from Hank Williams to Elvis to Smashing Pumpkins. Now here’s your chance to come be smitten by the charming manager, curator, and chief designer at Hatch, Jim Sherraden. And, will you be able to buy some of their historical poster re-strikes and new work? Oh yeah.
Who: Jim Sherraden has been creating original artwork based on Hatch Show Print’s shop archives since 1992. A Kansas native and Nashville resident since 1977, Sherraden joined forces with Hatch in 1984. Sherraden helped revive the store’s past success by concentrating on its poster production and revisiting the imaginative method of letterpress printing. Jim Sherraden is chief designer at Hatch Show Print and curator of American Letterpress: The Art of Hatch Show Print, an exhibition organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) and the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum. He is also the co-author of Hatch Show Print: The History of a Great American Poster Shop.
Take this class if you are a lover of letterpress, Americana, graphic arts, posters, humor and charming Southern drawls.
