Play in Public, Design Fail Institute
When: Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Where: Downtown Seattle
What: What if all the people of Seattle came together to design games for social change? How might we live differently if we realized our powers to “change the game” whenever we choose? Join for a night of fun and adventure — where the power of play for unleashing human creativity will be introduced.
Downtown Seattle will be transformed into a giant playground. Run for cover, chase each other, and race from one checkpoint to the next until the game is done. Inspired by the famous game, Journey to the End of the Night, this will be a “play in public space” event unlike any you’ve experienced before!
This game is a mix of hide-and-seek and tag where participants will run through an urban course from one checkpoint to the next until they have completed their journey. If they get caught by a chaser, they become chasers too and try to catch other runners. Winners will be those who finish the course first (for runners) and those who catch the most players (for chasers).
This is the kickoff event (maiden voyage, if you will) for the Design Fail Institute. It is their way of saying “Come play with us!” as they prepare their first full program — a summer camp for Seattle youth where they will learn to design alternate reality games to tackle epic threats to the Puget Sound Region.
