Please join two women technologists Ana Redmond and Margaret Maynard-Reid for a hands-on code lab. We will help you get started with Android development and debugging, and create your first Android app!
Coders and learners of any ability are welcome:
• Developers who want to get started with Android
• Testers who need to load android apps from IDE to Android device to test
• PMs who need to load android apps from IDE to Android device to track
• Students who are learning or planning to learn android via online course
We will help you set up Android-Studio, run and debug your first android app, and start making changes to it. We will provide step-by-step instructions. As UW instructors, we know this is the toughest step for most people to get started with Android development. Many unforeseen problems happen. We will have coaches to help with setup problems.
You must bring your own Laptop. Minimum 4GB RAM is recommended to run Android-Studio + emulator. The laptop can be Windows, Mac or Linux. Running and debugging your app on an android device is much faster, so, bring one if you have it. It doesn’t have to be a Google Play device, Kindle Fire’s work too. You will also need a micro-USB to USB connector for connecting the phone/tablet/fire device to laptop. We will help setup an emulator on your laptop so actual Android devices are not required, although preferred.
Space is limited so please keep your RSVP updated so that others can attend. We may repeat this event in the future if turns out to be in popular demand.
We need 3-5 Android developers to help out as coaches. If you can help, please post in the comments below. Coaches will need to –
• Answer beginner questions patiently
• Help with adb, device, and IDE setup
• Collaborate with other coaches
Seattle folks: there is a repeat of the same event on 7/27 at Google Fremont.
Schedule:
• 6:00 Networking & Pizza
• 6:30 Demo of Setup
• 6:45 Code Lab
• 8:xx: Q&A
