When: Thursday, November 15, 2012 5:30 PM through 7:30 PM
Where: 200 NE Moe Street Council Chambers, Poulsbo City Hall Poulsbo, WA 98370
What: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) are the go to skills for the next generation workforce. The concern about students and their ability to fill science, technology, engineering and technology (STEM) jobs is real, not only through the advanced degree pathway, but also more directly into the workforce. Creating this starts with ensuring all students are technologically skilled, competent problem-solvers in science and mathematics. Research indicates that students make the decision to pursue STEM careers by the time they are in middle school. If we want a system that provides for workforce needs, we must build it on a foundation of science literacy for all students, especially in the early grades. Our current and future economy will be increasingly based on STEM as these transform all sectors. Workers skilled in STEM fields will be increasingly in demand.Join us as a panel on K-20 STEM education, policies and issues for our local educational institutions discusses how best to connect these efforts to the higher education system and create tomorrow’s leaders. If you have children in school now, or are interested in helping frame the future educational agenda, this meeting is for you. Current students and their families are encouraged to attend. Expect a lively Q&A as we discuss issues.
