The Future of APIs and IoT, Seattle Startup Week Event
When: Thursday, October 23, 2014, 6:00 PM – 8:00pm
Where: Redfin, 2025 1st Ave #500, Seattle
What: The Seattle API Meetup is proud to be part of the developer track for Seattle Startup Week and to celebrate we are organizing a special event on the Future of APIs.
Modern apps are distributed, powered by a network of loosely-connected services that span every part of an organization. But APIs can be leveraged for more than just technical reasons, helping us scale our teams as much as our infrastructure. Learn about strategies for building a scale-oriented architecture applicable for teams of 2 to 200.
Talk: The Future of IoT Protocols and APIs— Room for improvement or business as usual?
The installed base of active wireless connected devices is expected to exceed 40 billion by 2020. Will our current networking protocols and messaging formats be able to cope with the demand, or will we need to rethink the way machines of all types communicate via the Internet? In this talk we’ll discuss some of the emerging messaging and API standards in IoT and debate the tradeoffs between ease-of-use, adoption and planning for future growth.
Who: Joining us all the way from San Francisco is John Sheehan, co-founder and CEO of Runscope. John has been deeply involved in the API space for over 5 years and was an early employee at Twilio and IFFFT. John is also the co-host of Traffic and Weather, an API and cloud podcast.
