About the speakers:

Denise Juneau is the 22nd superintendent of Seattle Public Schools, beginning her tenure with the district on July 1, 2018. Throughout her career in public education, Superintendent Juneau has championed equitable access to quality education. She is deeply committed to ensuring each Seattle Public Schools student graduates ready for college, career, and community. Superintendent Juneau actively leverages the strengths of the district to implement effective strategies that foster student achievement. Her experience spans the spectrum of education from classroom teacher to superintendent of public instruction for the State of Montana. She is an enrolled member of the Mandan Hidatsa Tribes, and a descendant of the Blackfeet Tribe, and the Tlingit and Haida Tribes.

Monica Guzman is the host of Crosscut’s’ Northwest Newsmakers series. She is the co-founder of The Evergrey, is a recent fellow at the Henry M. Jackson Foundation and Harvard’s Nieman Foundation for Journalism and is a former columnist at The Seattle Times and GeekWire. She is currently an advisor to Braver Angels and the author of an upcoming guide to staying curious in divided times. She lives in Seattle with her husband, Jason, and two kids.
