What: In this seminar, employers will learn the rules and regulations of employment law with respect to hiring practices. The seminar will address what to say or not say, what questions can and cannot be asked. The presentation will also provide an overview of employment discrimination laws and protected classes under federal and state laws. The seminar provides tips and best practices for managers and supervisors to ensure compliance with employment laws and avoid claims and lawsuits stemming from the hiring process.
 
Speaker: Selena C. Smith – Davis Grimm Payne & Marra
 
Selena C. Smith is an attorney with Davis Grimm Payne & Marra, a Seattle law firmfocusing on the representation of employers and management in labor and employment law matters.  Ms. Smith provides counsel and litigation services with respect to a wide variety of employment issues, including: laborrelations; unfair labor practice charges;collective bargaining agreements; employment discrimination, retaliation and harassment claims; wage and hour regulations; employee leaves of absence; wrongful discharge; employee handbooks and company policies; and hiring, firing and discipline issues.  She conducts workplace investigations and works with management to resolve employee disputes. She also speaks at seminars on employment and labor law topics and offers workplace training for employers. Ms. Smith graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law and is  admitted to practice law in the State of Washington.
