Junior Interactive Designer & Engineer, K2 Sports

What: K2 Sports is a company with 14 brands under its roof. The Internet Services Department supports these brands with a family of more than 20 global websites, all produced and maintained in-house. We are a small team of developers primarily working with in-house designers who establish the website style guides, design, and navigation. As our websites mature and expand, we have been looking to web designers who can help fine-tune and hone the user interface. This role is expected to help design and sometimes build landing pages, email templates, site navigation, special features and assist with miscellaneous front-end needs. We are looking for the right candidate eager to grow with the K2 Sports Internet Services team.

Responsibilities: We are seeking a junior level Interactive Designer & Engineer to help concept and design front-end solutions that will be implemented within our existing websites. This role requires skill in visual design, information architecture, interaction design and a solid understanding of web technologies. This role will also be expected at times to turn their design into code through HTML/CSS. Your principal accountabilities will be for conceptualizing and designing well thought-out solutions for either pre-existing or new features across different web and mobile platforms.  Sometimes your designs may turn into front-end functional pages, or Email templates design; sometimes you will be coding out from someone else’s design. At other times,  helping to manage our assets library – we’re using Adobe’s Scene7 dynamic imaging platform. Other activities:  Collaborating with developers on concepts and designs Communicating your ideas by means of pencil sketches, wireframes and mockups Assisting with miscellaneous front-end build if needed.
Requirements: Understanding of grid systems, composition, typography, and attention to detail Comfortable with creating and explaining wireframes HTML/CSS coding by hand Photoshop, Fireworks or Illustrator Comfortable working with pre-existing site design or style guides Must have portfolio showcasing web-based design and also coding examples Love and respect for beautiful, easy to read code. Plusses, but not required experience include designing mobile interfaces, a background working with eCommerce sites and familiarity with version control software (we use Subversion) and Mobile UI/UX.
