Who: WetPaint
Position: Web Analytics Intern
Where: Downtown Seattle
What: Wetpaint is on the hunt for a web analytics intern who is excited to take part in the major changes occurring in digital media today and thinks about everything in numbers. If that sounds like you, join us in our quest to build a new publishing platform that will revolutionize the media industry.
We’re building systems that can spot breaking news before it’s picked up anywhere else, handicap content for the amount of traffic it will drive and figure out where, when, and how to best merchandise this content across onsite, mobile, social, and email distribution channels. At the heart of these systems is a core focus on using data collection, analytics, machine learning, and optimization techniques on large numerical and unstructured data from social media streams and other sources. We’re setting the stage for a new paradigm within the media industry never before has this level of technology and data been applied to the way content is discovered, created, distributed, and monetized.
What: This position will use data to monitor and communicate key metrics and insights to the company, support the publishing team with analysis around social media and content consumption, and drive small web analytics projects that help Wetpaint revolutionize media.
Responsibilities: Wetpaint is looking for a critical thinking and inquisitive intern who will work within our Analytics team to help with data reporting and analysis. Primary responsibilities will involve maintaining dashboards, communicating insights from trends, and helping with quantitative support across the company. The ideal candidate will be very quantitatively-minded and attentive to details. As analytics is a core part of our business, this role will provide many valuable opportunities to develop experience with business intelligence and web analytics, as well as an extensive introduction to digital media and internet business.
This will be a paid internship with flexible hours.
Requirements:
1. B.A. (or current college junior/senior) in math/statistics, business, economics, or natural sciences.
2. Strong Excel and data analysis skills required. Ability to query in SQL and SPSS (or SAS) a bonus.
3. Understanding of web analytics and data platforms (such as Google Analytics) a plus.
4. Must be able to communicate data analysis in a clear and accurate manner to anyone.
5. Passionate about internet trends in digital and social media.
