What: The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is an independent global health research center at the University of Washington that provides rigorous and comparable measurement of the world’s most important health problems and evaluates the strategies used to address them. IHME has an outstanding opportunity for a Digital Communications Officer to join our team. The Digital Communications Officer is responsible for driving and managing a series of projects related to internal and external digital communications. This is an exciting role with an opportunity to spearhead new initiatives and take a leading role in strategy, development, and implementation of the Institute’s presence and interaction with stakeholders across multiple digital media platforms.
What: The Digital Communications Officer will work closely with the various teams across the Institute, managing the non-technical aspects of website usability, content creation, and design; production of videos, multimedia and interactive displays of IHME’s research; and the Institute’s presence on multiple digital media platforms and channels. This position reports to the Director of Communications.
Responsibilities:
• Manage all non-technical aspects of usability, functionality, creation of content, and design of all of the Institute’s websites– including IHME’s website, other Institutionally linked websites, and the IHME intranet; spearhead the development of new features
• Ensure that content updates on the websites and digital media platforms occur daily through an efficient streamlined process, working closely with the web developers to ensure timely posting and removal of content; selecting graphic and interactive elements across the platforms that appropriately support the IHME’s research
• Execute expanded digital media communications strategy, to increase the Institute’s impact and presence to achieve Institute-wide communications objectives through channels such as; Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Vimeo Slideshare, Issuu, Blogs, RSS feeds, etc; oversee and update strategy regularly
• Lead production of video and photography projects at the Institute to leverage within all of IHME’s digital media platforms — including video content and platforms to share them; videotaping events; storyboarding; and overseeing video editing for the web; taking photos
• Spearhead and drive the transfer of existing content on the Institute’s Intranet to a new Content Management System; working closely with the Director of Communications, the IT team, and employees across the organization to ensure the new platform improves functionality, is easy to use, contains information people need, and communicates information effectively; gather and update intranet content regularly; develop and coordinate new features
• Innovate and implement an integrative tracking and monitoring system, using a variety of tools, to capture mentions and track influence across all outlets, including traditional media, social media and digital media
• Lead the development of a suite of marketing materials for conference booths and events; track the inventory, and ensure stocking of the materials; design and implement a metric system of the marketing materials success
• Perform additional duties as needed
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field
• Two years or more of experience in website content management and strong background in website usability principles
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong understanding of digital and social media platforms and how to leverage them to further the Institute’s goals
• Experience in metrics and analytics for websites, digital media, and traditional media
• Strong project management skills, including demonstrated ability to think independently, to be flexible and to juggle multiple priorities
• Excellent interpersonal skills; a cooperative team player, energetic, able to develop productive relationships with colleagues and consultants
• Strong strategic and creative thinking
• Personally motivated to support the Institute’s mission and goals
• Photography and filming experience
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Photoshop
Desired:
• Film/video production experience
• Familiarity with media monitoring software and video editing software
• Experience in the development of marketing materials
• Experience working abroad; knowledge of additional languages
