Position: Hardware Planning Program Manager

What: Amazon Retail is creating a new hardware planning team focused on the enablement of business growth, software service architecture, and AWS hosting for our hardware systems around the world. This is a highly visible role within Amazon with executive visibility and accountability. We are looking for a Technical Program Manager capable of working with a large variety of interesting and unique software teams across Amazon Retail and all of Amazon. A successful candidate will have a strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.
We are looking for an experienced technical program manager to drive defining scaling metrics for our software services, migration into AWS, and managing and coordinating our hardware fleets. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong CS background, a passion for working on behalf of teams and customers and the ability to operate independently and autonomously. Maturity, judgment, negotiation skills, influence and leadership skills are all essential. The broad responsibilities of the position will include end-to-end ownership of projects in the functional area: generating product ideas, researching options, building project proposal, prioritizing on behalf of the customer, writing the design specifications, and driving execution. Also required is demonstrated success in planning and scheduling projects, understanding complex architectures and distributed solutions. The applicant will possess senior project management experience in a fast moving business with a track record of on-time delivery enabling them to generate quality business case support and analysis of projects, and ideally some technical experience.
Requirements:
– 3+ years in program management
– Proven experience handling large scale matrix project to success (execution focus)
– Experience in managing multiple projects and people from concept to completion on time, in a fast-paced environment
– Proficient oral and written communication skills with the ability to tailor communications to various levels of management
– Bachelors degree
– Distributed system architecture experience
– Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical thinking skills
– Proficiency knowledge of distributed systems and software services
– MBA preferred
– Experience with an e-commerce company is a plus
– Ability to think both strategically and tactically
– Curiosity to dig several layers deep into metrics, have an innate desire to understand key drivers and whether they are the correct or best metrics to measure/manage a business or process
– Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects – work prioritization, planning and task delegation
– Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results
– Broad commercial awareness developed in a fast-moving environment
– Exceptional interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills
– Innovative and self-directed
– Ability to deliver initiatives from conception through completion
– Experience managing people
