Position: Senior Web Developer

What: Blue Nile is currently seeking a Senior Website Developer to join the Site Development team. In this position, you will be part of a small team of highly-skilled developers utilizing current web technologies to maintain and enhance the Blue Nile website. The Site Development team is also an integral part of our initiatives supporting international expansion.
You will be responsible for providing technical leadership in developing front-end eCommerce features from inception to completion. Example projects include updating the architecture of our mobile website for iPhone and android users, working with the Marketing group to develop new promotional campaigns, and integrating our Blue Nile website with social media (e.g. Facebook). You will work with the assistance of other developers to deliver medium to large sized projects (e.g. several weeks — several months). You will provide leadership and use your problem solving skills to help determine the technical direction of the team. You will apply your strong knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, Javascript, and jQuery along with your knowledge of service oriented architectures, design patterns, and frameworks to enhance the software that supports the website. You will be working in Java and the Spring MVC framework. The ideal candidate can comfortably work with the entire technology stack, from browser to database. Responsibilities:
- Develop features and functionality for the Blue Nile public website
- Gain a deep understanding of the business and make key recommendations based on that understanding
- Design and implement front end features where you will be working with other front end developers designing a rich user interface
- Lead the evolution of the Blue Nile website to keep up with major technology shifts
- Provide web development leadership, introducing new technologies and techniques to the team
- Interact directly with internal business areas such as marketing and merchandising to define and clarify specifications, analyze business processes, and define solutions
- Develop primarily using Java, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
- Lead a project team in delivery of significant projects
- Perform code and test plan reviews, taking responsibility for the quality of released software
- Develop prototypes of new technologies as needed
- Develop project plans for large projects
- Mentor other developers
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- Five or more years of professional web development. Experience working on public database-driven websites is preferred, but not required.
- Experience with design patterns and frameworks. Experience with Spring MVC is preferred, but not required.
- Strong analysis, design, development and leadership skills
- Strong communication skills; you will be working with a variety of business leaders throughout the company
- Proven track record delivering high quality features to production
