Position: Community Manager

What: Startup Weekend is seeking a fast-learning, highly social individual with a passion for tending online communities. Full-time position, must be based in Seattle or willing to move, must love startups.
Interested in entrepreneurship, community-building, and advancing human welfare? Startup Weekend is an incredibly fast growing global non-profit organization, giving aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship through weekend-long workshops being hosted in 90+ countries worldwide. They operate in all parts of the world from San Francisco to Nairobi to Shanghai, and have grown 300% in the last year, with a global team of over 1,000 volunteers and supporters. Their core team of approximately 20 funky and fun-loving folks is headquartered in South Lake Union in Seattle, WA.
Requirements/Responsibilities:
- You have a marketing mind and understand how to use marketing channels to drive a brand or product to different groups within a community or audience.
- You have experience managing a pipeline and are reliable, respectful, and professional via email.
- You must be flexible enough to deal with niche communities and the different challenges and processes that come along with each. (Each of our products will require a slightly different approach and from the beginning you will be supporting different product managers as they work with the Marketing Department to develop and promote their products to our community.
- You’ve worked with social media at a business level before. (We know you have a Facebook, but do you know how to read through social analytics and plan your next post?) -You know how to use WordPress.
- You know and love MailChimp.
- You are a master of Hootsuite. (Huge bonus for being Hootsuite Certified)
- You know what all of these are, and how to use them. Twitter, Facebook, Facebook Groups, Pinterest, Google+ (And G+ Communities), YouTube, GoodReads, LinkedIn (and groups), Flickr. Bonus: Offerpop, WooBox, Wildfire, Linksy, Wistia, Google Analytics.
- You are creative and can contribute to new ways of leveraging our social channels to support the community and promote the brand.
- Social Media Analytics — We use SimplyMeasured and Sprout Social here to track our data and efforts, experience with these is a major plus. (We like to work smart and the data that we track from our community is key in making sure we are)
- Social listening and targeting skills
- You know how to identify and follow important conversations, join key communities, and find key influencers.
- Thorough knowledge of Google applications (Google apps, calendar & Mail)
- Customer service — a big part of good social media is, at times, providing good customer service. Experience in any position that required you to answer questions, deal with problems, or keep a friendly demeanor with frustrated customers while helping them to a solution is important.
- Organized and dedicated: We have a ton of social channels and groups all over the world to manage and even more that we want to do with them and we’re counting on you to execute on that and keep track of every conversation involving the brand.
- Miscellaneous Skills: Excel (csv), Eventbrite
- 1 year previous social media experience (Held a position at social media agency, managed social for a previous employer, etc.)
- 4 year degree (Preferably in Marketing, Entrepreneurship, or Business related field)
- Flexible schedule — it’s the startup world, things happen.
- Bonus if you’ve been to a Startup Weekend before.
