NBBJ Seattle is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join our talented Global Information Systems team. Our ideal candidate is highly autonomous, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, strong project management and time management skills and has a successful track record of designing simple, scalable solutions and troubleshooting complex network problems and delivering innovative solutions. The desire and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment is essential.
Responsibilities:
• Build and maintain OS images along with associated automation, tooling and quality control
• Performance analysis and tuning of bare metal and virtualized environments
• Build detailed capacity plans for different virtualized environments
• Measure, monitor and optimize hardware utilization
• Build high availability, reliable, and scalable architecture designs of virtualized platforms as per business requirements
• Document workflows, processes, procedures, configurations and use cases of infrastructure services
• Support the firm’s Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 Servers providing installation, logical and physical database design and implementation, security administration, backup and recovery planning and performance tuning
• Production experience with storage protocols and services including at least two of the following, CIFS, iSCSI, FCIP, FC. Netapp experience highly desirable
• Highly experienced with enterprise server class hardware from Cisco, Dell, and HP
• Adhere to and optimize service management principles (change/incident/problem management, CMDB)
• Establish systems, dashboards and metrics to facilitate a data-driven approach to problem resolution
• Code devops tools that make running a live service easier to maintain and operate
• Drive the scaling and sustainment of our current network designs to meet the demand of our customers
• Work closely with our internal customers on new designs/solutions, bringing them from concept to launch
• Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions day to day on our network
• Work with a wide range of complex technologies
• Meets with vendors to discuss product offerings, addresses technical issues/deficiencies and influences new products and services to meet growing and changing requirements
• Leads, coaches, and mentors other team members. Performs cross-training and facilitates information sharing among team members
Requirements:
Our ideal candidate has significant experience designing and managing medium scale global Microsoft Windows Server and Client environments
Methodical and analytical approach to server troubleshooting
Microsoft Active Directory in a multisite environment, including DNS and DHCP
Group Policy management
Microsoft Windows 2012
Installation, configuration and support of Microsoft Distributed File System, File Replication Services, File Quota/Resource Management
Windows PowerShell scripting
Microsoft Systems Center experience, primarily with SCCM
10 years of Microsoft Systems Engineering and platform experience with at minimum, global mid sized business organizations
5 years of solution design and system administration experience of virtualized platforms
3 years’ experience working in an ITIL framework or six sigma organization
Experience with software development life cycle principals
Experience in server provisioning and de-provisioning, server and storage management
Good understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals and related applications/protocols (DNS, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SSL),
Exposure and experience to software and hardware based load balancing and clustering solutions is highly desirable
Hands on technical experience with Microsoft CRM, SharePoint, Exchange 2010 +, and Lync 2013 (Skype for Business) a plus
Must be willing to support an off-hours, engagement only pager rotation
Familiarity with REST APIs and SNMP usage as well as implementation is desirable
Experience with GIT or similar version control systems and deployment tools like Chef is desired but not mandatory
Experience in building automation and orchestration engines for multi data center environments
Software development/programming/scripting skills are highly desired specifically Python, Ruby, or Perl
Preferred Qualifications
Highly autonomous, very detail oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to interact efficiently with peers and customers is required, as well as experience initiating, driving and managing in-event conference calls
The desire and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment is essential
A relevant degree in a related technical discipline or at least five years relevant experience in a mid-sized network operations environment is preferred
Effective prioritization and time management
ITIL Certification and/or
Technical certifications in any advanced function such as Virtualization, Networking, Operating Systems, Cloud, Security, etc. would be considered beneficial
