Who: GeekWire
Position: Cloud Tech Reporter
Where: Seattle
What: GeekWire is seeking a new, full-time staff reporter, focusing on cloud computing, enterprise software, DevOps and other nitty-gritty technologies transforming business and ushering in a new era of computing. This job is an opportunity to break news and dig up insights on some of the biggest players in cloud technology: Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Salesforce.com, Google Cloud Platform, Docker, GitHub and many more. The reporter hired in this position will help to lead a new Cloud Tech channel on GeekWire as part of an important expansion of our coverage.
Journalists who succeed at GeekWire get an adrenaline rush from a good scoop. They’re deeply curious about technology and business. They can juggle multiple assignments at once, including a mix of breaking news and in-depth stories. And they love figuring out mysteries, talking with sources and digging into public records.
The ideal candidate for this position would welcome the opportunity to dive deep into technical subjects. You wouldn’t be frightened to spin up a new virtual machine in Azure or give a new SDK a try. Reporting from a conference like Microsoft Build, Google I/O, Salesforce Dreamforce or Facebook’s F8 would be your dream assignment.
You should be able to take an announcement about a new API and write a compelling story that is readable by business-minded readers while still being credible with the techies who use these technologies every day. You should also have the ability to spot broader trends and identify competitive angles between the big technology providers when they make technical announcements about their platforms.
Success in this position means that a broad swath of business leaders, software developers and IT professionals around the world will read your coverage every day.
